Kamala Harris' word salad during the interview with Oprah Winfrey

With 47 days left until the 47th presidential election of the United States, the incumbent Vice President had a live televised interview with Oprah Winfrey. During and immediately after the interview, there have been many negative comments about Harris' answering ability and capabilities.

In general, the majority of viewers assessed that Harris was unable to answer the interviewer's questions in a focused and concise manner. Her answers often circled, evaded, or simply repeatedly stated general ideals and theories. They called her answers a word salad.

For example, when Oprah asked: "What is on your heart to say to the American people as we have 47 days um until November 5th. What's on your heart to say to particularly those people who are still uh undecided or maybe indifferent or on the fence?"

Harris replied: “Still we love our country I love our country I know we all do that's why everybody's here right now we love our country. We take pride in the privilege of being American and this is a moment where we can and must come Together As Americans understanding we have so much more in common than what separates us. Let's come together with the the character that we are so proud of about who we are which is we are an optimistic people we are an optimist people ..."

This is an interview segment that has been widely quoted and ridiculed on social media. However, for some who like to hear flowery words, it is quite a compelling and inspiring statement.

In another example, when Kamala Harris was asked about her plan to reduce the cost of living, she said she would do it by reducing the cost of necessities.

Oprah: "What would you do to reduce your costs?"

Harris: "Yes. First of all, thank you both for being here and your story is a story that I hear all over the country as I travel, and in terms of both of them, it is right to have aspirations and dreams and ambitions for your family and to work hard and to realize that the American dream for this generation and many generations of recent generations is much more elusive than it has ever been, and we need to address that. And there are a number of ways. One is to reduce the cost of everyday necessities, including even groceries.

Harris’ final words and key line throughout the interview seemed to be “we’re ready to turn the page”; however, for many it was seen as a contradiction because she is the incumbent Vice President, the things she promised to do she could have done nearly four years ago when she took over the White House with Biden. It should be Trump who made the statement of "turning the page".
