JF Kennedy may drop out the presidential race and endorse Donald Trump

In a recent interview with Fox News and a post on social media X on August 22, 2024, Nicole Shanahan, the running mate of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in the 2024 US presidential election, mentioned the possibility that Kennedy would drop out the race and their campaign would switch to endorse Donald Trump.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., born in 1954, is the son of Senator Robert F. Kennedy (born in 1925) and the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy (born in 1917). Both his uncle and father were assassinated in 1963 and 1968, respectively.

The Kennedy family has a tradition of  being Democrats. Kennedy filed for the Democratic presidential nomination in April 2023; However, in October 2023, he chose to run as an independent candidate in the election.

Recent polls show that Ms. Harris has about 48% of the votes, Mr. Trump about 44% and Mr. Kennedy about 5%.

Mr. Kennedy's campaign has faced opposition mainly from the Democratic Party rather than the Republican Party, and Trump himself rarely criticized Mr. Kennedy.

In her X post, Nicole Shanahan wrote, “When I point out what the Democrats and their super PACs have done to sabotage our campaign, their response is always, ‘But Trump is worse.’ Here’s an idea: stop suing us. Let us debate. Stop rigging the media and the polls. It’s a simple formula, folks—let’s do it.

A source close to the Kennedy campaign told the NY Post that RFK Jr.’s drop-out will be announced Friday in Phoenix, Arizona.

If the predictions come true, the current majority of Kennedy’s support will be transferred to Donald Trump, dramatically changing the Harris-Trump race. If Trump wins, then Kennedy/Shanahan will definitely have a certain position in the Trump administration in 2025.
