Donald Trump announced an additional $100 billion investment from Taiwan Semiconductor Giant

At the White House on Monday 3rd March 2025, it was announced that Taiwan semiconductor giant TMSC would invest additionally 100$ billion to build another five factories in the US. This development has helped reinforcing Donald Trump’s strategy of using high tariffs as a leverage to encourage foreign investors come to the USA.

TMSC’s additional investment has some national security and defense meaning also. “…But it will at least give us a position where we have — in this very, very important business, we would have a very big part of it in the United States. So it would have a big impact if something should happen with Taiwan.”, Donald Trump referred to “something” as the case of China isolating or taking Taiwan as supposed by a reporter.

TSMC started to set its manufacturing foot in the USA since 2020, with 3 factories in Arizona State capitalized at more than $65 billion so far, making this the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) in Arizona history, and the largest FDI in a greenfield project in U.S. history. The 3 factories so far are expectedly to create approximately 6,000 jobs – and more than 20,000 accumulated unique construction jobs, as well as tens of thousands of indirect supplier jobs.
