USA – Not like a medicine injected into the blood, Donald Trump’s policies on immigration and tariffs are something more like raw food which the economy body needs sometimes to digest, absorb and turn it into muscle. The side effects of his policies may prolong, and at certain points of time, intensify the partisan divisiveness in the nation during his first year in office.
Despite the Right’s landslide victory in the presidency, the House, the Senate and the state governments, many of the Leftists not to mention most of them are still stick with strong-held rhetoric that their opponents are fascists, Nazis and their defeat was caused by sexism and racism. As a matter of reactions, the Leftists would tend to find/invent, point out and amplify signs of fascism in the governance of the new administration.
The new Trump Administration reportedly intends in its first year to expel at least 1 million illegal immigrants in a mass deportation program. It would not be surprised to see the spreading of stories next year highlighting the suffers of illegal immigrants upon deportation, or in worst case, it would be even described a humanitarian crisis. The sentimental confrontation between “for or against” deportation between the Leftists and Rightists would be intensified around the middle of 2025.
Not only sentimental, a procedural confrontation on the House and Senate floors, and between the federal and the Democrat-led states would take place. Some Democrat governors said that they would oppose Trump’s deportation plan to protect their residents. California Governor Gavin Newsom wrote on his X “California is ready to fight. I just called an emergency special session to help bolster our legal resources and protect our state against any unlawful actions by the incoming Trump Administration. Whether it be our fundamental civil rights, reproductive freedom, or climate action -- we refuse to turn back the clock and allow our values and laws to be attacked”.
States’ oppose or lack of cooperation would trigger Trump to apply retaliation or budget penalty measures, possibly widening the divisiveness.
Tensions can be mitigated if Trump Administration would provide the detailed background and personal records of the 1 million in the list to be deported first – worst people on the first list, to convince the protestors that “these are immigrants deserve deportation ”. However it seems to be not an easy task, because many illegal immigrants do not have identification papers, and all the information the government obtained from them is from the self-proclaim of their own.
To be fair, the illegal immigrants’ sufferings would be real, but the America would suffer more if they are still in the country.
Then July 4, 2026 to comes. Both the Left and the Right would expectedly lower their voice and spend more time on looking back to the traditional American values to commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
