Premier of Ontario recedes after Donald Trump threatens to raise tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50%

Premier of Ontario Doug Ford agreed to suspend its 25% surcharge on exports of electricity to Michigan, New York and Minnesota. He is also pushing talks with USA Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative to discuss a renewed USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement). When the Trump Administration applies the reciprocal tariffs on April 2nd, Canada would likely face tariffs not just of 25% but can be 250% - 390% because these are the rates Canada is applying for American farming and diary products.
