POLIBIZ – Partisan division in the US politics has reached another level one week before the 2024 presidential election date when President Joe Biden called Donald Trump’s supporters as “garbage”. A few days earlier, Kamala Harris took her Vice President seal to describe her presidential opponent as “a Hitler”, followed by a widespread propaganda by Democrat top officials labeling attendances at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally on 27th Oct (or even all of his supporters) as “Nazis”.
In the 2020 presidential election, Trump obtained more than 74 million popular votes, so his supporter base can be 100 million Americans or more.
Despite the warning letter from the US House Speaker and Senate Republican Leader, the Vice President has not refrained herself from sticking the “Hitler” label on Trump. She continued to apply the said labeling in the closing statements at her recent rallies and at the Town Hall on CNN.
8 years ago, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton on September 9, 2016 used the phrase "basket of deplorables" to talk about Trump’s supporters. She also described them as "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic".
Meanwhile, Donald Trump often uses the phrases “crooked Joe Biden”, “lying Kamala Harris”, “crazy Nancy Pelosi” (former House Speaker) to talk about his adversaries. At a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in Sept 2024, Trump claimed that Kamala “was born mentally impaired”. Since the description was found too harsh, he has never repeated it again, and turned to more moderate descriptions of her as “being stupid”, “having low IQ”, or having serious Cognitive problem.
The news of “garbage” description by Biden came as Trump was talking on stage at his rally in Allentown, PA. In reaction, the former President said "Please forgive him [Biden], for he not knoweth what he said... Terrible to say a thing like that, but he really doesn't know."
Meanwhile, President Biden took on X to pacify the storm he has caused “Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation”.
However, it seems that the storm of “insulting extremes for each other” would continue to wildly whirl through the Election Day.
